Hello members and friends,
Just a quick reminder that the first instalment of fall shares will be going out this week. For those of you picking up at the farm today, please feel free to come by anytime since it is Halloween and you may have Halloween things to organize. If you need to come another day this week, that's fine too. The shares will be located on the tables in the red shed in a blue bin. Just look for the one with your name on it and take the entirety of it's contents, as we may or may not be around to assist you. Don't forget to bring bags or a box for collecting your veggies.
For Ottawa residents, you will have your shares delivered to your door tomorrow (Wed, Nov. 1st) so if you are not around, it may be helpful to leave a cooler or container out for us to drop the veggies in, otherwise we will leave them in bags at your door.
For best storage results here are a few tips:
Carrots and beets should go in a cold humid place, in a fridge in the bags you received them in is best(4-5 mos.). Garlic and onions should go in a cool place that isn't too dry with good air circulation, in a cupboard or on your counter should be fine(3-4 mos.). Squashes should be stored in cool place that is well ventilated (1-3 mos.). The butternuts will keep the longest and the delicata the least due to their thin skins so keep that in mind as you use them. The turnips are also best in a cold humid place such as a fridge if you still have room. Leave them in the bags you received them in (3-4 mos.)
Enjoy the veggies and have a very spooky Halloween!
