June Photo Update!

Hello members and veggie enthusiasts!
Here are a few updates regarding
  • our progress in the field
  • our attendance at the Ottawa Farmers' Markets, starting this Sunday
  • the CSA, which begins in 2 weeks for weekly & b-weekly A members!!!
  • retail items available to the CSA
All of the seedlings have been transplanted, with the exception of those allocated for succession plantings, such as lettuces and the fall crop of cabbages, broccoli, kale, etc.
Our field team of 3, Stephanie, Julie-Anne and Jonny, have been working hard to make it all happen as quickly as possible to ensure that the CSA starts on time and we have enough veggies to bring to market this weekend. We are starting at Lansdowne Market which runs every Sunday from 9-4. We'll wait another 2 or 3 weeks until the crops are bigger to begin at Westboro Market on Saturdays.

Our priority is always the CSA. Rest assured members, you will receive your money's worth of veggies over the course of 17 weeks. The season starts out light with greens, garlic scapes, radishes and the other cool weather crops. As the summer progresses, you can expect heavier items such as tomatoes, zucchinis and eggplants, and eventually potatoes, winter squashes and more greens in the fall.

The cucurbits (zucchinis, patty pans, pie pumpkins and winter squashes)
are in the ground!
The caterpillar tunnels went up last week to house the peppers and tomatoes.
But before the seedlings went in, Ayla and Jonny had a race.

 Ayla won!
Today the crew is out weeding.
One of our greatest challenges is keeping on top of the weeds.
The garlic is looking phenomenal and will soon send up
garlic scapes for the first few CSA shares.
So much garlic! These guys are even happier after a weekend of rain.
Finally, we will have extra products for sale on the website that can be picked up on CSA days along with your veggies, such as locally roasted coffee, local honey (from our farm) and local maple products. Extra vegetables will also be available for purchase on the website, should you require more than what is offered in your share. Check out the web store here for new products.
Thanks for reading and happy June!
